His Majesty King Abdullah concluded a very successful working visit to Mexico, where he held talks with President Enrique Peña Nieto and other high-ranking officials on the relations between the two countries, and how to boost their growing economic and business relations, and advance their political cooperation.
Mexico is the second largest economy in Latin America. It has a free trade agreement with the US, a fact that makes it a coveted market for Jordanian exports as well.
Jordan is keen to open new bridges with South America; having established embassies in Brazil and Chile, it is now expected to do the same in Mexico.
The emerging economies of Latin America offer unique opportunities to the Kingdom. These are large markets and trade with them would be mutually advantageous.
At the same time, many countries in this South American continent have large Arab communities with whom Jordan can link up in due course.
Many Jordanian expatriates are business leaders in several South American countries, including Mexico, who are eager to re-establish contacts with their mother country and contribute to stronger relations between it and the adoptive country.
Jordan has taken the decision to heighten its international profile by opening up embassies in most regions of the world.
The money invested in such a step will be money well spent, as it promises to generate new opportunities for cooperation with many nations.
Jordan and Mexico, and many other countries for that matter, may be too far apart geographically, but are close politically and economically in view of their shared values and perspectives.
This is what makes the world a better place and helps nations understand each other.
