Justice, equality and transparency

Apr 03,2014 - Last updated at Apr 03,2014

His Majesty King Abdullah on Wednesday met with the chairperson and members of the Royal commission tasked with evaluating and following up on the implementation of the National Integrity Charter plan, urging full compliance with its recommendations, with utter impartiality and transparency.

High hopes are pinned on the diligent execution of the plan of action adopted to put this charter into effect, particularly since, as the King highlighted, justice, equality and transparency, lofty principles all humanity aspires to live by, are the three most important pillars of the charter.

“I don’t see anything more important,” rightly said the Monarch when he outlined these basic features of the charter whose aim, it follows, is to instil justice, equality and transparency in all aspects of life in the country.

The King also called on the commission to reach out to all concerned institutions in the public and private sectors, as well as civil society organisations, in carrying out its mission, for the purpose of which it partners with the executive, legislative and judicial authorities, with oversight agencies and with professional associations.

The charter should be incorporated in school and university curricula, so that it gets wider understanding and support.

The Lower House, in particular, needs to closely cooperate with the commission to adopt the most effective ways to make the charter a way of life and an integral part of the national culture.

The road to the full and faithful implementation of the charter is going to take some walking.

The commission is no doubt working hard to begin this long journey, the outcome of which is eagerly anticipated by the country.
