AMMAN — Jordan plays a vital role in the midst of difficult regional circumstances and is “walking successfully through a minefield”, Turkish Ambassador to Jordan Murat Karagöz said on Sunday.

During a press conference to mark the third anniversary of its failure, the ambassador commended the stance of Jordan and its people towards the attempted coup d'état that occurred in Turkey in 2016, highlighting the Kingdom’s support to his country during that period, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Karagöz also hailed the level of Jordanian-Turkish relations, noting that His Majesty King Abdullah and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have met five times over the past two years.

He also highlighted that an increasing number of Jordanian tourists are visiting Turkey.

The ambassador explained that trade relations have continued despite the termination of the free trade agreement between the two countries, highlighting a planned visit by a Jordanian trade delegation next September to promote tourism in Jordan.

He also expressed his pride in cooperation between the two countries, which recently manifested in the launch of 135 Turkish buses in Amman.

The ambassador underscored that a Jordanian-Turkish Business Council delegation will visit Jordan to explore cooperation for projects in a number of fields, in addition to meeting with Prime Minister Omar Razzaz.

Karagöz also highlighted that 2020 will be the year of cultural exchange between Jordan and Turkey, adding that cultural days will be held in Turkey to promote tourism in Jordan.
