AMMAN — The Amman Chamber of Commerce (ACC) and the Iraqi embassy in Amman on Saturday reached an agreement to establish the Iraqi Trade Centre at the chamber's headquarters by the end of this year.

During a meeting with the Chargé d'Affaires at the Iraqi Embassy, Munif Ali Hussein, ACC President Khalil Al Hajj Tawfiq stressed that Iraq is an important trading partner for Jordan, and emphasised the need to lay new groundwork for cooperation based on mutual interests, to advance economic integration.

The centre will provide Jordanian and foreign businesspeople, contractors and investors with an opportunity to explore investment opportunities and tenders made available by the Iraqi government in various sectors, including housing, roads, infrastructure, IT, finance, banking and industry, among others, he said, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Hussein expressed the Iraqi government's keenness to open the centre at the chamber's headquarters by the end of the year. National exports to Iraq reached JD261 million during the first half of this year, while imports totalled JD74 million.
