Run Jordan launches first women’s race

Run Jordan is proud to announce to launch the first race geared towards women in Jordan, under the slogan “Run For You”. The 2019 Samsung women’s race, to be attended by   HRH Princess Dana Firas, will kick off on Friday, July 12th 2019 at the King Hussein Park.

Run Jordan has created this initiative to encourage women of all ages and from different backgrounds and fitness levels to exercise and experience first-hand the health benefits of running, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle. The race includes two categories: 2.5 km and 5 km.

The slogan “Run for You” has been coined to highlight our aim at enabling women to reach their fullest potential and to encourage women from all walks of life to adopt a healthy lifestyle. This race also sheds light on the important role that females play in our society, and celebrates their achievements,” commented Run Jordan’s general manager Lina El-Kurd. 

 

Expanded codeshare agreements add 5 new cities to RJ’s network

Royal Jordanian (RJ) expanded two of its existing codeshare agreements with Turkish Airlines (TK) and Qatar Airways (QR), giving RJ guests the option to travel to further destinations conveniently, using a single ticket and avoiding multiple passenger and luggage check-ins.

The expansion of the codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines added four new cities in Turkey to RJ passengers’ list of destinations in this country: Dalaman, Antalya, Gaziantep and Izmir. Moreover, RJ has been selling seats to Milan, Sofia, Sarajevo and Budapest via Istanbul on board Turkish Airlines flights. Meanwhile, the expanded codeshare partnership between RJ and Qatar Airways has added Nairobi to RJ’s route network.

In remarks, RJ President and CEO Stefan Pichler said: “The codeshare agreements with TK and QR boost RJ’s presence in the market and offer RJ customers more destinations that can be reached more easily and conveniently. “Through codesharing with other carriers, we aim to synchronize our schedules to reduce layovers and longer waiting times at airports, making our guests’ travel experience hassle free.” 

Orange Jordan opens registration for BIG entrepreneurial programme

Orange Jordan is opening registration for the participation in the seventh season of BIG programme, Orange Jordan’s growth-mode accelerator programme.

The registration will be open until the end of June. The company said that the registration to participate in the new season will go hand in hand with the approach of the end of BIGseason six.

The company will celebrate the graduates and newcomers to the programme, affirming that the tangible success achieved by the programme in its consecutive seasons, contributed to the continuity of startups.

The programme falls in line with Orange Jordan’s vision, in contribution to community development in the Kingdom, through extending support to the youth. Since its launch in 2015, technical support has been offered to 31 startups through providing work spaces in its platform, in addition to training programmes, media exposure, and joining these startups in the Orange Fab Summit, in addition to facilitating their access to the world’s leading growth and guidance programmes. 

Orange Jordan graduates first batch from Women Digital Centres programme

AMMAN — Orange Jordan, in partnership with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD), on Wednesday held a ceremony for the first batch of graduates from its Women’s Digital Centres Programme.

The programme was held at five different locations affiliated with JOHUD, including the Queen Zein Al Sharaf Development Institute, JOHUD Social Support Centre in Amman and Princess Basma Development Centres in Madaba, Al Taibeh in Maan Governorate and Al Khalidiya in Mafraq Governorate, according to an Orange Jordan statement.

In total, 100 women received training in digital, management and entrepreneurship, in addition to how to build their startups and promote on social media, the statement said, adding that trainees were also assisted in their own income-generating projects.

The programme’s winning projects, which will receive finance grants, were announced during the graduation ceremony, the statement noted.

Orange Jordan CEO Thierry Marigny and Executive Director of JOHUD Farah Daghestani, also highlighted the programmes’ best projects during the ceremony.

St Regis opens doors in Abdoun

AMMAN —The St Regis Amman officially opened its doors in Abdoun on Wednesday, according to a statement sent from the luxury hotel.  Abdallah Fraihat, executive director of Eagle Hills Jordan, the real estate company involved with the project, said his company was pleased to “introduce yet another globally renowned brand to Jordan”.

The hotel features 260 guestrooms, suites and apartments, as well as the brand’s signature St Regis Butler Service, which offers around-the-clock service and customises each guest’s stay according to their tastes and preferences, the statement read. 

“We are delighted to bring the renowned St Regis brand experience to Jordan and offer guests an unparalleled experience both befitting the destination and true to the legacy of the brand,” said Erden Kendigelen, general manager of St Regis Amman.

The hotel also carries with it four new culinary venues. Mercado Andaluz, the first Spanish restaurant in the city, according to the statement, offers Andalusian cuisine deeply influenced by Southern Spain. Art of Paella offers diners Mediterranean dishes in a farm-to-table concept.

Opening early July, Tamara, will showcase Levantine cuisine focused on seafood and organic produce infused with the region’s flavours and specialising in simple coastal dishes prepared and served sharing style.

Finally, the hotel houses the iconic St Regis Bar inspired by the King Cole Bar at the brand’s flagship in New York, as well as the Tea Lounge, where guests can enjoy the brand’s signature Afternoon Tea ritual.

The St Regis Amman also boasts 2,980 square metres of meeting spaces including the city’s largest pillarless ballroom.

 

Ayla, Akkawi Group ink agreement to expand Marina Village offerings

AMMAN — Aqaba’s Ayla recently signed an agreement with Akkawi Group to expand its seaside Marina Village food and beverage offerings, a joint statement sent to The Jordan Times read.

Under the agreement, Akkawi Group will open three international food and beverage outlets in the development project’s Marina Village retail space, offering residents and visitors more choices that fit within Ayla’s brand identity, the statement said.

The agreement aims to fulfil Ayla’s pledge to have a fully fleshed out retail space by early 2019, which the company said it considers a core component of its development project.

Ayla is currently in the process of formulating other agreements with vendors and investors, with a number of those slated for announcement in the coming months, according to the statement. 

The agreement was signed by Ayla’s Managing Director Sahl Dudin and Akkawi Group’s CEO Ziad Akkawi.

“This agreement also falls in line with our long-term vision for Ayla as a mixed-use residential community that houses all the amenities, services and conveniences of a luxury lifestyle,” Ayla’s Managing Director Sahl Dudin said in the statement.

Orange Jordan celebrates King’s 20th Accession to the Throne anniversary

AMMAN — On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of His Majesty King Abdullah’s Accession to the Throne, Orange Jordan has held a ceremony, as part of the company’s plan to celebrate this precious occasion.

The ceremony started with a national march led by “Dereetna Al Ordoneyeh” band, that played national songs and witnessed wide resonance by participants, who expressed their pride and happiness on this special occasion, and thanked the company for this distinguished gesture.

The ceremony, held at the Boulevard-Abdali area, was attended by a large number of Jordanian citizens and company employees.

RJ holds Iftar banquet for 250 orphans at Children’s Museum

Royal Jordanian (RJ) held an Iftar banquet on Tuesday at the Children’s Museum/Jordan for about 250 orphans, with several RJ pilots and employees attending the Iftar.

This year, the RJ staff’s participation has been noticeable in various Ramadan activities that the company held, in line with its commitment to volunteering and corporate social responsibility, which sees its personnel participate in goodwill deeds.

The children toured the museum and enjoyed the educational experience the museum offers, which enables them to explore and experiment through numerous activities, and learn through playing. They also interacted with the RJ staff who talked to them and gave them simple briefings.

Participating pilots answered various questions asked by the children about how an airplane is operated.

 

Aviation leaders join in Seoul for IATA’s 75th annual general meeting

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said leaders of the air transport industry are gathering in Seoul, Republic of Korea, for the 75th IATA Annual General Meeting and World Air Transport Summit.

Hosted by Korean Air, and held for the first time in the Republic of Korea, the event is expected to attract more than a thousand top leaders from among IATA’s 290 member airlines, their suppliers, governments, strategic partners, international organisations and the media. “The airlines will be meeting in challenging times.

2019 is expected to be the 10th consecutive year of airline profits, but rising costs, trade wars and other uncertainties are likely to have an impact on the bottom line,” according to Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s director general and CEO. 

RJ guests can now enjoy watching movies and TV shows on their personal devices

Royal Jordanian (RJ) launched a new, state-of-the-art technology, offering passengers wireless in-flight entertainment (IFE) system on board the airline’s four Airbus A319 and six A320 aircraft.

The new IFE service, provided by Bluebox Aviation Systems, is deployed on the Bluebox Wow portable wireless IFE system; this solution provides wireless content streamed to passengers’ personal devices on both Crown and Economy classes.

To view a wide range of films, TV programmes, games, airline info and audio, passengers need to download the “Sky Connect” app on their personal devices from Apple Store or Google Play prior to their flight departure.

This will enable them to stream IFE content provided by RJ for free on their personal devices (smartphones, laptops and tablets).
