Parental guide on facing teens’ drug addiction launched

In line with the Public Security Department’s (PSD) My Hand in Your Hand drug awareness and prevention campaign, implemented by the Anti-Narcotics Department, a No to Drugs, Yes To Life parental guide has been launched.

At the launch ceremony, PSD’s Major General Fadel Hmoud said the booklet attests to what citizens can achieve when they come together to confront drug addiction.

Produced by Al Marji’ Publications, sponsored by Cairo Amman Bank and in partnership with the Royal Health Society and the Anti-Narcotics Department, No to Drugs, Yes To Life empowers parents of children between the ages of 12-14 years with basic information about drug addiction and prevention in Jordan.

Souq Dezain to showcase Jordanian talent

Souq Dezain is working to showcase Jordanian talents, fashion and product designers in an event that will be held in Ras El Ein, Amman between April 4 and 6. The event is organised by Dezain Space in partnership with the European Union and Zain Jordan.

The expo “Souq Dezain” comes as part of wider European Union efforts to support entrepreneurship and private sector development in Jordan, through the EU “Jordanian Action for the Development of Enterprises” project. 

RJ offers 21 per cent off on tickets on Mother’s Day

Royal Jordanian (RJ) is offering a discount of 21per cent on its selling fares in celebration of Mother’s Day. The offer will be valid for 24 hours on March 21, and available through RJ’s online channels: www.rj.com and mobile application.

This sales promotion applies to round-trip fares for all RJ’s global destinations, excluding travel originating from US and Canada, in economy and business classes, for travel valid between May 1 and December 15, 2019. Those taking advantage of this sales promo can enjoy a maximum stay of 30 days and a minimum stay of three days at their destinations.

JAMA convenes annual meeting

The Jordan Association of Management Accountants (JAMA) has held its annual meeting recently, highlighting the association’s achievements for 2018, and its outlook for 2019.

The annual meeting featured a review of JAMA’s 2018 achievements, including 15 workshops, the IMA 6th Regional Conference, the launch of the first Jordan CFO Forum and the First Student Chapter at the University of Jordan, as well as facilitating four CMA Scholarships.

“Our achievements in 2018, which include the successful organisation of the Middle East Regional Conference and the launch of Jordan CFOs Forum is just the start of our plans for the industry, and we are looking forward to more accomplishments and successes in 2019,” commented Ammar Khayyat, JAMA president.

The meeting also showcased the 2019-2020 plan for JAMA, which includes a continued focus on universities and training students to become better equipped to join the workforce through professional certification courses.

In terms of knowledge acquisition, which is another JAMA strategy for 2019-2020, the association will work to conduct more than 20 workshops and to serve more than 750 professionals and students in 2019.

InterContinental Jordan celebrates International Women’s Day

Middle East University marks a new achievement in international rankings

Middle East University has accomplished a new international achievement in its attainment of a three-star rating in QS World University Rankings for the best 800 universities in the world.

The University has attained a five-star rating in three criteria: teaching, social responsibility, and learning environment, while its ratings in other criteria ranged from two to four stars.

The chairman of the university’s board of trustees Yacoub Nasereddin said this achievement is the result of the university’s family collaboration, which believes that attaining international certificates of accreditation and quality shall result in uplifting the university.

The university received the rating certificate from QS regional manager, Ashwin Fernandes, during a ceremony attended by Nasereddin; and several university representatives, in addition to the university’s staff of the deanship of accreditation, quality, and information and deanship of international programmes.

New technologies driving new conversations on payments

Today more than ever, people are living an increasingly digital — and mobile — life, and they expect their ability to pay for their needs to match that same “always on” mindset, according to social media conversations identified in the 2019 edition of the Mastercard Digital Payments Study.

Mobile payments represented more than 30 per cent of the total social media conversation around payments in the Middle East and Africa, with total mentions doubling over the prior year.

Now in its sixth year, the study, developed in partnership with PRIME Research, analysed more than 3.3 million conversations globally and 90,000 conversations in the Middle East and Africa from the past year across social media channels including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Weibo.

Today, nearly 20 per cent of all mobile commerce payments are focused on contactless payments and mobile wallets, and people are increasingly positive toward these newer technologies.

In the Middle East and Africa, virtually all (95 per cent) mobile wallet conversations were favourable, with 22 per cent of posts praising.

China looks forward to further strategic partnership in vocational education

Marking the strategic partnership with China, Middle East University has celebrated the Chinese Spring Festival to further strengthen the relations between the two countries.

At the ceremony, attended by the chairman of Middle East University’s board of trustees, Yacoub Nasereddin, the Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Pan Weifang described Jordanian-Chinese relations as distinguished by a mutual respect and shared vision that have reflected on the development of means of cooperation between the two countries in educational, cultural and other fields.

He also stressed China’s commitment to boost cooperation between the two countries through investments in various fields, the chief of which is vocational education.
