AMMAN — Water Minister Motasem Saidan and Sweden’s Ambassador to Jordan Alexandra Rydmark on Tuesday discussed means to enhance cooperation in the water sector in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the challenges facing the Kingdom’s water sector, highlighting the ministry’s efforts towards setting a national strategy that takes into account introducing non-conventional water sources, notably through including new areas in sanitation and wastewater treatment services, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The envoy, for her part, stressed that her country is looking to increasing the level of cooperation with the Kingdom in various fields, mainly water reclamation programmes. Also on Tuesday, the minister met UNICEF Representative Tanya Chapuisat, who reiterated the UN agency’s commitment to supporting the Kingdom’s water sector, noting that more financial support will be made during this year to boost Jordan’s response capabilities in this arena.
