Border guards arrest infiltrators

AMMAN — Border Guards on Tuesday after midnight arrested three non-Arabs, whose nationalities were not specified, trying to sneak into one of the neighbouring countries, a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) spokesperson said Wednesday.

The three infiltrators were referred to specialised authorities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported, citing an army statement.

In late July, Border Guards arrested three infiltrators who were attempting to cross into the Kingdom from Syrian territory.

The unit’s front line surveillance personnel spotted the three people while they were trying to cross the border into Jordan.

Soldiers dealt with the situation in line with the rules of engagement applied under such circumstances, the statement said, adding that the three infiltrators were arrested after one was shot in the thigh.

After the arrest, Border Guards found different weapons and communications tools in the infiltrators’ possession.

During the past months, border surveillance troops have detected, and arrested or killed a number of infiltrators, mostly narcotics smugglers and suspected terrorists.

The army has repeatedly stressed that it would deal with any attempts to cross the border, in any direction, and schemes to harm Jordan and Jordanians with the necessary force.
