Energy minister launches solar power project

AMMAN — Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Mohammad Hamed on launched a JD1 million solar energy project in Amman.
The scheme, which belongs to Marwa Company, is expected to generate around 1,650 megawatts per hour of clean electric energy, reducing the company’s electricity bill by JD300,000 a year.

Photovoltaic solar systems for power generation will be installed at the Kingdom’s mosques under a project to be implemented in the course of this year, according to an energy ministry official.
The Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and Shams Maan Company on Monday signed an agreement by which the former would buy from the latter electricity generated from solar energy with a capacity of 50 megawatts at the Maan Development Area (MDA).
