‘Deal of the century’ a complete sham, deception of worst kind

Jul 14,2018 - Last updated at Jul 14,2018

The so-called "deal of the century" for the Palestinian case has been in a prolonged period of gestation that makes its miscarriage a high probability if not inevitable.

Not much has been made public about the main features of the “deal”, but judging by the sporadic information that has been deliberately released now and then to test the Palestinian waters suggest that it has all the marking of Oslo-styled "self-rule" formula, rather than the two state solution that the international community has come to sponsor and agree upon as the only sensible and workable solution for Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

No wonder information and details about the deal have been released in a timid way and without much enthusiasm, even from its US sponsor.

While the village of Abu Dis becoming the capital of "Palestine" has dominated the news, it is not really the issue. The village of Abu Dis is not and has never been the capital of any state, much less a Palestinian state.

The "deal" being contemplated is, therefore, a non-starter from many vintage points of view. After waiting for many decades for a homeland and independence on Palestinian soil, the Palestinians are not about to be swayed into accepting a solution that denies them these basic and inalienable rights.

So why the secrecy that surrounds a failed deal. Why not come out in the open and put it forward so that the whole world can see it for it really is; a sham through and through or a deception of the worst kind.

It appears that the differences between Israel and the Palestinians are simply irreconcilable and it serves no purpose not to recognise this stark reality. Some few conflicts in the world are destined to persist for centuries and the Palestinian crisis is one of them.

Perhaps interim solutions should be considered for the time being until time is ripe for the final solution. The Palestinians have waited this long, surely they can wait longer until they are in a position to regain their full rights as people entitled to sovereignty and independence on their own national soil instead of settling for something that denies them their rights as a people.
