Teaching lessons

Jordan made good on its promise to avenge the murder of its pilot, Muath Kasasbeh, ordering one sortie after another and pounding mercilessly at the bases, ammunition depots and training facilities of the terrorist group that calls itself Islamic State.

Ever since the news broke out that the captive pilot was brutally killed by the depraved Daesh, Royal Jordanian Air Force fighters have been targeting objectives in the Raqqa area, Syria, where IS established a base for its diabolic operations against innocent people for no reason other than not being on its side in its war against humanity.

The punishing aerial bombardment of IS bases is projected to continue for many days; the purpose is to degrade and weaken the movement’s military capabilities.

Meanwhile, there has been no let up in the outpouring of emotions against the murderers of the brave Jordanian pilot.

People have been demonstrating everywhere in the country.

In Amman, Her Majesty Queen Rania joined thousands of mourners who took to the streets on Friday in a show of solidarity with His Majesty King Abdullah and his relentless fight against IS.

The country has yet to recover from the tragic death of Kasasbeh. The wounds inflicted by his murder are deep and will not be forgotten.

The strikes against IS, as the foreign minister said, are only the beginning of the “earth-shaking” response of the country to the murderers who claim to act in the name of religion.

Awaiting are even more powerful and painful strikes that will, hopefully, take out the ruthless terrorists.

If they only understand force, they will be taught that lesson.

Meanwhile, in the country, there have to be efforts to address destructive ideologies like Daesh’s.

If there are similarly sick-minded individuals who think of making this criminal group’s apology, they should think twice.

Its acts and ideology are anything but Islamic. They defy human behaviour and people like them have no place in any sane society.
