USAID funding to bring GFP campaign to schools in Irbid

AMMAN — USAID will provide financial support to Generations For Peace (GFP) to expand its Jordan Schools Programme in 2014-16, according to a joint statement released Thursday.

The new partnership, which will build on the success of a pilot programme tested in boys schools and girls schools in Amman and Zarqa over 12 months, will work to reduce violence and improve educational performance in schools in Jordanian communities hosting Syrian refugees.

HRH Prince Feisal, founder and chairman of GFP, commended the joint effort, noting that “USAID’s generous support will help us reach more schools, and by selecting schools in host communities, the programme will now benefit both Jordanian and Syrian refugee children in those communities most in need.” The programme, which follows GFP’s curriculum, uses sport- and art-based activities integrating conflict transformation education.

The next phase entails expanding the programme to schools in Irbid.
