AMMAN — Security agents on Thursday arrested two persons, who allegedly set fire to Tabaqet Fahel municipality building earlier this week, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Public Security Department (PSD) personnel said it had received information on August 19 about a fire which erupted at the municipality building.
After the Civil Defence Department (CDD) personnel put the fire off and took samples from the scene, the forensic laboratory recognised the fire as an act of arson.
The two suspects, of whom one is an employee at the same municipality, confessed to planning for the arson, buying a “petrol derivative”, and setting the building on fire, accoring to Petra.
They also confessed that they were trying to destroy official documents that they wanted to get rid of.
Before setting the building ablaze, the two suspects vandalised the place by smashing doors and furniture to make it look like an act of revenge carried out by angry voters protesting against election results.
Investigations are still ongoing and the suspects will be referred to the judiciary, according to Petra.
