AMMAN — Authorities on Wednesday allowed a sick Syrian child to enter the Kingdom for medical treatment, the Jordan Armed Forces- Arab Army (JAF) said in a statement.

A video showing the sick toddler went viral last week, amid claims that the child had been denied entry to the Kingdom from Rakban camp in no-man’s land between Syria and Jordan.

JAF said in a statement that the child had been admitted to Jordan after the army verified the video and reached out to the child’s family.

An activist in Rakban camp sent The Jordan Times a video on Wednesday, showing the child leaving the camp and heading to the Jordanian border.

The activist said that the child’s family had received approval for him to enter Jordan for treatment at Rweished medical centre.

When the video of the sick child was first circulated last Thursday, JAF said that Border Guards had not denied the toddler entry to Jordan.

Border Guards had not received any request to assist the child, JAF said in an earlier statement.

Jordan declared the area a closed military zone after a terrorist attack in late June targeted a military post serving refugees near the border, killing seven troops and injuring 13 others.

Prior to the closure of the northern border, Jordan was receiving dozens of refugees daily.

However, since the attack, no Syrian refugee has entered the Kingdom, with the exception of those admitted for the medical treatment.
