Border Guards did not refuse entry to sick Syrian child — army

AMMAN — Border Guards have not refused a sick Syrian child entry from Rakban camp into Jordan, an official from the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said on Saturday.

The army has provided medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, but Border Guards have not been asked to treat a sick child in Rakban camp in Syria, near the Jordanian border, the official said in an army statement.

The army released the statement after a video showing a seriously ill toddler, alleged to be in Rakban in the no-man’s-land between the Syrian and Jordanian borders, was widely shared on social media.

The army official said that the video had not been verified and that rumours that the child was denied entry were false, emphasising that no such request had been made.

The official reiterated that the northern and northeastern borders will remain a closed military zone, and that they cannot be approached without coordination.
