AMMAN — The Kingdom will remain under the effects of the “very cold” air mass today which began affecting the country on Sunday, the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) said on Sunday.
A sharp fall in temperatures is expected today with very cold and rainy conditions affecting most regions of the Kingdom, the JMD said.
The downpour is expected to be heavy at times and accompanied by thunder and hail, which may lead to flooding in valleys and low-lying areas.
In the early hours of the night, rainfall will gradually weaken and fog is forecast for mountainous areas, with brisk north-westerly winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, the JMD said on its website.
On Tuesday, conditions are expected to stabilise and temperatures should rise slightly, while cold weather is forecast to persist in most areas of the Kingdom.
Temperatures are expected to be fair in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.
The department warned of low visibility on roads and mountainous areas in the morning today, and called on the public to take precautionary measures in the desert areas due to winds which may raise dust.
Temperatures in Amman will range between 12°C and 4°C today, according to the JMD.
