AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ayman Safadi on Wednesday received Fadwa Barghouthi, the wife of Palestinian prisoner and the leader of the Fateh movement, Marwan Barghouthi.
During the meeting, Safadi reviewed Jordan's efforts to halt the deterioration in the occupied Palestinian territories and stop illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution and chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.
Safadi stressed that Jordan will continue to devote all its capabilities towards supporting the Palestinian people and prisoners, as well as their legitimate rights, foremost of which is their rights to freedom and an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 lines.
Safadi emphasised Jordan's support for the steadfastness of Palestinian prisoners and their rights.
For her part, Barghouthi praised Jordan's efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah, to support the Palestinian people and help them obtain their full rights.
She also stressed the importance of the historical Hashemite Custodianship in preserving Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, and protecting their Arab, Islamic and Christian identity.
