Restaurants prepare to reopen for takeaway, delivery services

AMMAN – After restaurants started applying to the Tourism Ministry’s platform to provide food services through delivery, many started creating advertisements on social media websites, as users expressed their excitement to order their favourite meals.

One of the famous chains for burgers posted on their account, “download our delivery app, you will need it,” attracting over 5,000 comments from people in the Kingdom.

Facebook user Hala Alqudaimat commented, “What really matters is to ensure there is health supervision, and even if everyone is wearing masks and gloves, they need to be careful of how they handle things,” to which the restaurant account replied: “We assure you that we follow the highest quality standards in our kitchens for the safety of all.”

As users from different governorates inquired whether delivery would be available in their areas, the restaurant assured them that services will be available in compliance with the government’s instructions to preserve everyone’s health.

Another eatery posted a video advertisement of its famous calzone and fries as a teaser for their return to work and delivery.

“My children are counting each day that passes until you say you are ready to deliver,” Dina Hazim commented on the ad.

Mohammad Eshaq wrote: “This will be the first place I visit after the curfew and quarantine are over,” while many others tagged their friends to tell them they missed visiting the place together.

Another restaurant known for its Turkish food and shawarma posted a picture depicting people in their homes reminiscing over the meals they used to have outside, to which people, in good-humour, commented how the pictures are torture to look at as such foods have not been within grasp since mid-March.

A well-known fried chicken chain posted: “Are you ready?” with a picture of its product, and most users commented that they were waiting for the moment they will be able to order their most desired combos.

Also on social media, many individuals posted how they could not wait for the restaurants they regularly ordered from and frequent to open, which led them to search for and try the recipes on their own to make the closest possible likeness; including falafel, hummus, fried chicken, shawarma and even fettuccine alfredo.

The Tourism Ministry on Monday announced that a total of 2,347 restaurants have applied through the delivery.mota.jo platform to provide food services, of which only 1,880 have completed the regulatory conditions stipulated in the platform.

Tourism Ministry Secretary General Imad Hijazin said in a statement to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, that all restaurants that have completed the conditions have been inspected by a joint committee formed by the ministries of Tourism, Health and Labour and the Jordan Food and Drug Administration.
