Rased commends House decision on election of governorate council members
By Petra - Aug 19,2015 - Last updated at Aug 19,2015
AMMAN — The Civil Coalition for Monitoring Elections and the Performance of Elected Councils (Rased) on Wednesday commended the Lower House’s decision on Tuesday to elect all members of the governorate council instead of electing 75 per cent and appointing the rest as in the draft decentralisation law.
Rased described the decision as reform-oriented, in line with international standards. Moreover, Rased said allocating 15 per cent of the elected council for the women’s quota ensures a good representation of women and gives them the right to exercise an active role in the development process in Jordan.
