Prince Hassan briefed on conditions of Syrian refugees

AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Sunday stressed the need for regional plans to deal with the challenges resulting from hosting large numbers of Syrian refugees to be able to contain the repercussions of the Syrian crisis.
During a visit to the Ministry of Interior, Prince Hassan was briefed on the conditions of Syrian refugees in the Kingdom and the challenges facing the Kingdom, as a result.
In the presence of HRH Prince Rashid, chairman of Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation’s board of trustees, Interior Minister Hussein Majali highlighted the different efforts exerted by security, military and civil society bodies to regulate all issues related to hosting Syrian refugees in the Kingdom, noting that not arriving at a political solution to the crisis will breed more violence.
Brig. Gen. Wadah Hmoud, director of the Syrian Refugees Affairs Directorate, said there are around 1.4 million Syrians in Jordan, with 640,000 of them registered as refugees.
Around 15 per cent of the refugees are residing in refugee camps while the majority are living in residential areas in Amman, Mafraq and Irbid, among other towns.
