AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Local Administration Tawfiq Krishan on Saturday paid an inspection visit to six municipalities.

The inspection seeks to ensure the sustainability of the cleanliness campaign launched by the ministry in cooperation with a number of municipalities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The minister's surprise tour included the municipalities of New Giza, New Amriya, Qatrana, Sultani, New Husseiniya and Maan Al Kubra and the Desert Highway.

Krishan assured mayors and officials that the ministry began materialising Royal vision and government plans by implementing a comprehensive and continuous national campaign to clean forests, archaeological and tourist areas, public parks, and main roads.

The minister noted that the municipalities that have succeeded in consolidating their national and local role in development are able to be a major part of this comprehensive national campaign that aims to clean and beautify cities, villages, countryside and deserts.

He called on the municipalities to coordinate with neighbouring areas, urging mayors to to work in parallel with the campaign to deal with emergency conditions during the coming winter, by establishing operations rooms, preparing field teams, and ensuring the readiness of the necessary equipment and halls that can be used as shelters.

Krishan had previously assigned directors and officials in the ministry the task of carrying out weekly tours to all areas in the governorates and districts and to provide him with a comprehensive weekly report on the progress of the campaign.
