AMMAN — The load on the national grid on Monday reached its highest level in summer, at 3,450 megawatts (MW), in comparison with 3,010 MW recorded during the same period in 2019, marking an increase of 14.6 per cent, according to a National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) statement.

Director General of NEPCO Amjad Rawashdeh said that the load is expected to continue increasing between 3,400MW and 3,500MW as the heatwave is forecast to continue until the end of the week.

He noted that the demand is expected to decrease during the Eid Al Adha holiday. Rawashdeh stressed NEPCO's ability to meet growing end-use energy consumption, pointing out that the company is ready to handle any exceptional circumstances.

Also on Tuesday, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission  called on consumers to ration their consumption during the heatwave, according to a commission statement.
