AMMAN — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly's decision to qualify the state of Palestine for full membership and granting it additional privileges.
Ministry's Spokesperson Sufian Qudah affirmed that the adoption of the resolution by a majority of 143 votes reflected international consensus on the right of Palestine to full membership in the United Nations, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination of their independent and sovereign state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with its capital in East Jerusalem, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Qudah called on the Security Council to reconsider the request for Palestinian membership in the United Nations without delay, calling on the international community to make coordinated efforts to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just, and permanent settlement of the Palestinian issue in accordance with international law, United Nations resolutions, and the Arab Peace Initiative.
