AMMAN — Iraq’s President Abdul Latif Rashid on Tuesday described Iraq's relations with Jordan as “strong, developed, and characterised by a long history,” the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Receiving a Jordanian media delegation, Rashid stressed, in a presidential statement, the depth of relations between Iraq and Jordan, and the social ties that bind the two people.
Rashid said that Iraq’s relations with the Arab, regional and international countries at the present time are “very good”.
Highlighting the importance of free media as an indicator of a government's performance, Rashid said that some media outlets do not exert an effort to convey the true picture of Iraq, calling on media professionals to keep up with Arab and international developments.
He also urged media outlets to not only present crises, but also contribute to providing solutions.
Rashid said that Iraq is a country rich in natural and human resources, adding that the media is required to cease portraying Iraq as a war zone.
The Jordanian delegation included Director General of the Jordan News Agency, Petra, Fayrouz Mubaideen, Director General of the Radio and Television Corporation Ibrahim Bawareed, Editor-in-Chief of Al Rai newspaper Khaled Shaqran, Editor-in-Chief of AdDustour newspaper Mustafa Riyalat, and Editor-in-Chief of Al Ghad newspaper Makram Tarawneh.
It also featured Head of the Freedoms Committee in the Arab Journalists Union Abdel Wahhab Zgheilat, as well as members of the Jordan Press Association Ali Freihat and Amjad Sneid.
