AMMAN — The Palestinian issue is the cause of all Jordanians, and the Kingdom will always support Palestinians until they receive their legitimate rights on their national soil: The establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi said on Thursday.

Safadi’s remarks came during a meeting with a Palestinian delegation, including Central Council member of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO), Abdullah Abdullah, and Director-General of the PLO’s Department of Human Rights and General Coordinator of the Campaign to Recognise the State of Palestine, Qassim Awwad, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

During the meeting, which was organised by MP Khalil Atiyyeh, Safadi said that the Lower House is always keen for the Palestinian issue to be at the top of its agenda at international events, stressing the need to coordinate joint efforts to stop the injustices towards the Palestinian people and support their resilience.

For their part, members of the Palestinian delegation commended the unaltered stances of Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, at all regional and international events.

During the meeting, the two sides agreed on cooperation mechanisms in defence of the rights of the Palestinian people, and made arrangements to launch a Lower House campaign in support of Palestine.

The delegates noted that the campaign is to be supervised by the PLO, and will target international parliaments, academia and civil society institutions to push towards global recognition of the state of Palestine, based on the Palestinian speech delivered by President Mahmoud Abbas at the 77th session of the United Nations.
