AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday urged Jordanian citizens residing in Lebanon to immediately register via the Jordanian Embassy's website: https://mfa.gov.jo/ar/embassy/Beirut/form.

This registration initiative aims to count the number of Jordanian expatriates in Lebanon and their respective locations in order to streamline communication in times of need, according to a Foreign Ministry statement.

The request is in line with the ministry's effort to safeguard the welfare and support of the Jordanian expatriate community in Lebanon, especially during the prevailing regional circumstances and Lebanon's official announcement of contingency plans to address the challenges, the statement read.

The situation in Lebanon has been tense amid increasing escalation between Israel and Hizbollah at the country's southern border.

Shiite group Hizbollah said that its fighters had fired rockets at Israeli military posts, drawing in response Israeli artillery barrage on Lebanon's southern border regions.

International Organisation for Migration said that more than 19,000 people have been displaced in Lebanon.

IOM said that thousands of civilians in Lebanon's southern regions on the borders with Israel have fled, heading to other parts of the south or areas in or outside Beirut.
