AMMAN — A fire erupted in seven shops on Sunday evening in Zaatari camp for Syrian refugees, but no injuries or casualties were reported, the Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) spokesperson said on Monday.
Civil Defence Department personnel extinguished the fire, which was sparked by a short circuit, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported the spokesperson as saying.
UNHCR Jordan Spokesperson Mohammad Hawari said that the UN agency “always seeks to adopt necessary safety and security procedures at workplaces and homes”, noting that UNRWA has trained refugees on how to use fire extinguishers.
