AMMAN — The Jordan Engineers Association (JEA) said Thursday that it will defend its detained members Mazen Nafe, Ghassan Doar and Wasfi Habbab, charging that “combating terrorism” is now being used as a pretext to arrest “righteous activists”.
The three engineers, in addition to Doar’s son Baraa, were detained recently by security forces, a JEA statement said, adding that their houses were searched and some of their belongings confiscated.
They are charged with committing acts that disturb the peace and threaten society, in violation of the Anti-Terrorism Law.
Ghassan Doar is also charged with attempting to manufacture explosives, the JEA said.
