AMMAN — An initiative to provide schools with tablet devices for interactive books was signed on Thursday in a bid to enrich students’ educational experience.

The 2017-2018 interactive book initiative “Minhaji”, or “My curriculum”, seeks to improve interaction between teachers and students by providing 1,000 educational devices to fifth and sixth graders in 20 public schools

The project was launched on Thursday by the Education Ministry and Orange Jordan, in cooperation with UNICEF and eLearment company.

At the signing ceremony, Education Minister Omar Razzaz said the initiative is a “qualitative leap” towards e-learning, noting that the project is the first step in computerising school textbooks in all the Kingdom’s schools.

UNICEF Representative to Jordan Robert Jenkins underlined the importance of Minhaji in integrating the use of technology to improve the quality of education.

Also on Thursday, the Education Ministry signed an agreement with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) and the Charity Clothing Bank to cover the needs of students through donations, including of clothes, school bags and stationery.

Razzaz noted that the ministry will provide the bank with lists of students in need of such assistance through its education departments across Jordan.

JHCO Secretary General Ayman Mefleh said the organisation will distribute the clothes to students as of next week.

The clothing bank was established by JHCO in 2013.
