Army foils alleged smuggling attempt at Syria border

AMMAN — The Northern Military Zone, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Department and the Public Security Department, on Tuesday foiled an alleged smuggling attempt by four people trying to cross from Syria to Jordan, a source at the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army said.

The military source said that the rules of engagement were applied, forcing them to flee back to Syria, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

After searching the area, the security personnel reportedly found three bags of narcotics containing 244 palm-sized sheets of hashish, 77,500 Tramadol pills and 149,000 Captagon pills, and were referred to the concerned authorities. Also, the source said, on the Syrian border, five people allegedly tried to cross from Syria.

The security personnel applied  the rules of engagement, resulting in the arrest of one person, who was referred to the concerned authorities. Another suspect was injured, which forced the group to retreat to Syria, according to Petra.
