14 arrested in connection with celebratory gunfire following Tawjihi result announcement

AMMAN — The Public Security Directorate (PSD) reiterated its commitment to take strict action against violators who were arrested on Wednesday evening following the announcement of the General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) results.
A PSD statement revealed that the department's surveillance and continuous monitoring of information and reports led to the arrest of 14 people allegedly involved in the illegal discharge of firearms.
In addition, 11 weapons were confiscated as of 18:00 on Wednesday.
The Traffic Department issued a total of 2,059 fines, including 651 for violations related to obstructing the flow of traffic through processions, 1,342 violations related to individuals hanging out of vehicles and 66 violations for reckless driving.
Reaffirming its firm stance in dealing with both the illegal discharge of firearms and traffic violations, the PSD stressed that surveillance measures will continue throughout the night and over the weekend.
The directorate added that it is actively investigating all reports brought to its attention.
