Jordanian diplomacy and Arab unity on Palestine

Mar 05,2025 - Last updated at Mar 05,2025

Jordanian diplomacy has a long and rich history of efforts to support the Palestinian cause, and this approach is rooted in the commitment of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, led by its kings, who have always sought to strengthen the unified Arab position towards Palestine.

These efforts can be particularly appreciated during participation in Arab summits, where the Kingdom stands out as a pioneer in the pursuit of peace and justice for the Palestinian people. Through tireless and continuous diplomatic work, Jordan seeks to enhance global awareness and mobilize international support to find a just solution that guarantees the rights of the Palestinians and supports their aspirations for independence and sovereignty, emphasizing the need for Arab unity in the face of the challenges facing the Palestinian cause.

In recent years, Jordan has hosted several Arab summits, with Palestine always being the focus of these meetings. The aim of these summits was not limited to discussing current issues but was also directed towards reaffirming the joint Arab commitment to supporting the Palestinians in their quest to achieve their legitimate rights and establish their independent state.

These efforts aimed to unify Arab visions and renew the call for the international community to intervene effectively in resolving the conflict. Through these summits, Jordan stressed the importance of a comprehensive and just peace that respects the historical and sovereign rights of the Palestinian people. It also stressed the need for Arab solidarity in providing material and moral support to the Palestinians, pointing to the vital role that Arab countries can play in supporting the peace and development process in Palestine.

Jordanian efforts are evident in attempts to bridge the gap between the various Palestinian factions and Arab countries. For example, Jordan has supported many meetings aimed at resolving Palestinian divisions and unifying the Palestinian ranks as a necessary step to move forward on the peace process.

Jordanian diplomacy works to encourage dialogue and aid that contributes to strengthening the position of the Palestinians in international negotiations. These efforts are not limited to the political level only, but also include humanitarian and economic dimensions, as Jordan seeks to facilitate economic and development cooperation between the Palestinians and other Arab countries, stressing the importance of Arab unity and solidarity to support the Palestinian cause in an effective and sustainable manner.

In addition, Jordan exploits its international relations to draw attention to the Palestinian cause. Through its active participation in international forums such as the United Nations and the European Union, Jordan seeks to secure broader international support for the cause.

Jordan has always been a strong voice calling for justice for the Palestinians and denouncing the violations they are subjected to, thus contributing to keeping the cause alive in the conscience and minds of the world. King Abdullah and his diplomatic team are actively working to raise awareness of the complexities of the conflict and the urgent need for a solution that guarantees the rights and dignity of the Palestinians, while continuously working to strengthen bilateral relations with major powers to ensure support and endorsement for these causes.

On the other hand, Jordan has played a pivotal role in providing humanitarian and economic support to the Palestinians. Economic relations between Jordan and the Palestinian territories are a vital element in the Kingdom’s quest for inclusive economic stability in the region. By facilitating access to markets and supporting joint economic projects, Jordan strengthens Palestinian infrastructure and provides a model for regional cooperation.

Jordan, with its long history of working for peace, continues to serve as a respected and trusted mediator in negotiations. Its efforts extend from bilateral meetings to multilateral efforts, always trying to bring viewpoints closer and find common ground among all parties involved.

Considering these ongoing efforts, it can be said that Jordanian diplomacy has played a decisive role in shaping and strengthening the unified Arab position on Palestine. Through its continuous pursuit of peace and justice, and working to unify the Arab ranks, Jordan affirms its role as a pivotal state in the Middle East that seeks goodness and stability in the region and works hard to guarantee the rights of the Palestinian people and preserve their dignity.

At the recent Arab Summit in Cairo, King Abdullah reviewed Jordan’s position rejecting the concept of displacement and an alternative homeland, stressing that a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue must be based on the principles of international legitimacy. During his meeting with US President Trump, the King expressed his deep concern about any attempts to impose policies or solutions that conflict with the historical and legitimate rights of the Palestinians.

These meetings enhance Jordan’s role as a key ally in international peace efforts and reflect its steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause.
