AMMAN — A total of 27 inmates passed the 2024 General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (Tawjihi), thanks to the reform policies implemented by the Public Security Directorate (PSD), particularly through education and rehabilitation initiatives, Director of the Rehabilitation and Correction Centres Department, Col. Falah Majali said on Sunday.
Majali stressed that inmates in the Kingdom's correctional facilities are given real opportunities to reintegrate into society, provided they have the will to do so, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Being in a correctional centre is no longer a barrier to success; for many, it has become a turning point to a better future, Majali said, adding that this achievement was made possible by a coordinated effort between the correctional centres and the Ministry of Education.
He also noted that the initiative included the establishment of four schools within the facilities and the assignment of a liaison officer from the Ministry of Education to address the academic needs of the inmates.
To further encourage these achievements, PSD Director Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Maaytah ordered that successful inmates be given special visits and phone calls to their families.
The PSD also said that it will organise a formal ceremony to honour their achievements.
