Industrial producers’ price index declines 1.04% in May 2024 — DoS

The Department of Statistics says on Sunday that the Kingdom's General Industrial Producers' Price Index in Jordan saw a decrease of 1.04 per cent by the end of May, reaching 107.39 points compared with 108.52 points during the same period last year (JT file)

AMMAN — The Kingdom's General Industrial Producers' Price Index in Jordan saw a decrease of 1.04 per cent by the end of May, reaching 107.39 points compared with 108.52 points during the same period last year, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Sunday. 

The base year was updated to 2018 from 2010, Dos noted as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

According to the DoS monthly report, this decline over the first five months of the year, compared with the same period last year, was driven by a 1.26 per cent decrease in manufacturing industry prices and a 3.27 per cent decrease in extractive industry prices. 

The department also noted that electricity prices saw a 4.42 per cent increase.

The report also highlighted that the industrial producers' price index rose by 0.14 per cent in May, reaching 107.92 points compared with 107.76 points in May 2023. 

The increase was attributed to a 0.34 per cent rise in manufacturing industry prices and a 4.19 per cent rise in electricity prices, while extractive industry prices went down by 7.24 per cent.

On a monthly basis, the index decreased by 0.48 per cent in May, recording 107.92 points compared with 107.41 points in April 2024. This change was influenced by a 0.75 per cent increase in manufacturing industry prices, a 3.12 per cent decrease in extractive industry prices, and a 0.21 per cent decrease in electricity prices.
