AMMAN — Jordanian expatriates are excited about the Public Security Directorate’s (PSD) new plan to digitalise border crossing procedures, after facing long wait times during the Eid Al Adha holiday.

In a radio interview with Amen FM, Customs Colonel and Head of the Foreign Cars Department, Ali Al Majali, said that it is necessary to facilitate the entry of foreign cars into Jordan.

According to Majali, the PSD’s goal is to provide expatriates with electronic entry permits, as well as insurance policies for their vehicles upon arrival at entry points, all in a bid to avoid delays.

A dedicated drive-thru lane will be established at border centres to expedite entry procedures, he added, noting that certain modern vehicles do not require physical inspection, and can be thoroughly checked electronically.

“The Insurance Union is urged to station an insurance border centre office to directly handle electronic clearance procedures,” Majali added.

Customs personnel, including employees of the Information Technology Directorate and entry licenses cadre, are prepared for the electronic transition, Majali affirmed.

Expatriates voiced their approval of the new plan, stating that they look forward to a faster travel experience in the near future.

“This plan will make our trips home much smoother, especially before Eid,” Bana Kilani, a Jordanian living in Saudi Arabia, told The Jordan Times.

Kareem Kan’an, another expatriate, noted that he is “glad” the authorities responded to expatriates’ demands made during Eid Al Adha by digitalising travel procedures.

“I’m glad the authorities are working to improve our travel experience. This will surely make a big difference for all of our trips back to Jordan,” Kan’an told The Jordan Times.
