Mexican ambassador outlines plans to boost exchange, cooperation in year ahead

AMMAN — Fostering exchange between Mexico and Jordan epitomises the Mexican embassy’s strategic goals for the year ahead, Mexican Ambassador to Jordan Roberto Rodriguez-Hernandez revealed on Wednesday.

Celebrating the 48th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Jordan, the ambassador invited media personnel to the embassy to showcase the mission’s agenda for 2023. 

“This year, we will extend our efforts to boost tourism exchange between Mexico and Jordan,” Hernandez said during the session. 

A group of Jordanian influencers, travel agents and media personnel will be invited to Mexico to promote the country as a tourist destination for Jordanians. 

Conversely, a group of Mexican influencers and media personnel will be invited to Jordan to promote the Kingdom’s distinct natural features and holy sites, with both promotional campaigns supported by Turkish Airlines.

“Apart from tourism cooperation, the year 2022 witnessed extended cultural and academic cooperation between the two countries. We will further extend our efforts this year,” Hernandez added. 

An academic delegation from the Mexican University of Colmex will visit Jordan with the aim of promoting academic cooperation between Jordanian and Mexican universities in terms of scientific research and experiential exchange.

Economic and business collaboration also ranks among the embassy’s goals for the year ahead.

“The embassy of Mexico, in cooperation with the Jordanian Businessmen Association, will hold a workshop to discuss business and investment opportunities in both countries,” Hernandez said. 

During the latter half of this year, the embassy also intends to organise a business trip to Mexico for the members of the Mexico-Jordan Friendship Association, during which businesspeople and investors will have the opportunity to meet with their Mexican counterparts and discuss potential avenues of cooperation, the ambassador added. 

Work is underway to transform the Jordanian city of Salt and the Mexican city of Ixtapan de la Sal into “twin” or “sister” cities, Hernandez noted.

In terms of cultural exchange, a Mexican ballet and folklore dance troupe is set to participate in the Jerash Festival this year to showcase Mexican art, the ambassador said. 

Former Minister of Culture and President of the Mexico-Jordan Friendship Association, Barakat Awajan, praised the Mexican embassy’s efforts to increase tourism, cultural exchange and academic cooperation between the two countries.
