Aqaba Container Port unaffected by trucker strike — director

AMMAN — The movement of cargo ships at the Aqaba Container Port (ACP) is carrying on as usual and is on schedule, according to Abdel Majid Qaralah, director-general of the Aqaba Company for Ports Operation and Management (ACPOM).

“ACP operation efficiency was not affected by truckers’ strike, which began about a week ago,” Qaralah told The Jordan Times on Sunday. 

There is no delay or disruption in shipping movement, he said.

In case there is a need for additional planning procedures, ACPOM will find a workaround, particularly if the strikes last longer, according to Qaralah. “All matters are well organised and monitored,” he said.

Additionally, the discharge and transfer of cargo to storage locations can be done smoothly, as there are vast spaces that can take in incoming cargo, even for a long period of time, he added.

All vessels are arriving on time, and will depart once cargo is unloaded, he said.

However, “there are two livestock carriers that are still at the port but are scheduled to depart today,” he said, pointing out that the transfer of livestock “has been somewhat slower due to the strikes”.
