Winners of El Hassan Bin Talal Award for Scientific Excellence honoured

AMMAN — HRH Prince Hassan on Thursday honoured the winners of El Hassan Bin Talal Award for Scientific Excellence during a ceremony at the Royal Cultural Centre.

Their Royal Highnesses Princess Sarvath and Sumaya, Prime Minister BIsher Khasawneh, in addition to a number of senior officials and former ministers attended the event.

The Higher Council for Science and Technology (HCST) announced the winning projects of “El Hassan Bin Talal Award for Scientific Excellence”, which this year was granted to vocational and technical education institutes. 

The first prize, totalling JD10,000, was shared between the Institute of Biomedical Technology at the Jordanian Royal Medical Services for its project “Ventilator Device” and Al Nasr Girls High School in Amman for its project “Recycling Industry Waste”.

The second prize of JD7,000 went to Al Balqa Applied University for its project “Developing Qualitative Technical Programmes that Meet the Needs of Local and External Labour Markets” and the Vocational Training Corporation in Amman for its project “Women’s Economic Linkages and Employment Development”.

The third prize of JD5,000 is being shared between the Public Security Directorate’s Special Branch Community Peace Centre in Amman for its project titled “The National, Media and Theatrical team for Community Peace”, and the Sahab Secondary Comprehensive School for Girls in Amman for its project “Natural Apple Cider Vinegar”.

“The true investment is investing in human capital,” Prince Hassan said during his speech. 

Prince Hassan set recommendations to overcome the challenges facing the education and the vocational training sectors, including the need to change social stereotypes, to activate the Occupational Labour Regulation Act, which will have a positive impact on regulating the relationship between workers and employers.

“A total of 19 projects applied for the award from 18 vocational and technical institutes,” Abdallah Musa, acting secretary general of the HCST, said during his opening remarks. 

Musa added that the award aims to encourage educational, scientific and technological activities in educational and training institutions in the Kingdom, which will develop the institutions’ performance, boost teamwork and serve the community.
