Kingdom sees almost 60% more tourists than 2020

AMMAN — The Kingdom welcomed 1,807,225 foreign visitors as of the end of October, marking an increase of 59.7 per cent, compared with the same period in 2020.
The monthly report from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities revealed that the number of overnight visitors hit 1,552,545, showing an increase of 59.8 per cent, compared with 971,795 tourists during the same period in 2020.
The number of visitors to tourist destinations and archaeological sites also increased compared with the same period in 2020, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Ajloun welcomed 122,071 visitors, with an increase of 141.2 per cent, Wadi Rum 142,304 visitors, an increase of 36.5 per cent, Karak 48,149 visitors, an increase of 286.7 per cent, Umm Qais 27,803 visitors, an increase of 24.8 per cent and Jerash 80,708 visitors, an increase of 5 per cent.
Petra, the rose-red city, also witnessed rise in tourists during the first 10 months of 2021, receiving 145,087 visitors, while the Baptism Site received 30,734 visitors.
Jordan’s tourism revenues during the January-October period of the year increased by 61.2 per cent to reach $2.1 billion compared with a drop of 73 per cent in the same period of last year, according to data released by the Central Bank of Jordan.
