AMMAN — Jordan has always been an advocate for the establishment of weapons of mass destruction (WMD)-free zone in the Middle East, Jordan Atomic Energy Commission (JAEC) Chairman Khaled Toukan said.

The commission, in a statement on Wednesday, said that Toukan, during the Vienna-held 65th regular session of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reiterated Jordan’s unceasing support for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as promoting peaceful uses of nuclear technology.

During the session, Toukan highlighted the IAEA’s anti-coronavirus efforts towards supporting member states, including Jordan. He emphasised the importance of the agency’s launch of an integrated project to combat zoonotic diseases, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

He also reviewed the Kingdom’s achievements related to the nuclear energy programme, including a nuclear power plant project, a uranium exploration and mining project and human resources development.
