AMMAN — The stimulus package issued by the government last March has targeted employing journalism and media fresh graduates, Minister of State for Media Affairs Sakher Dudin said on Saturday.

Dudin, during a symposium held in the Middle East University, said that the package has included youth employment campaigns aimed at providing young people with temporary jobs in the fields of health, agriculture, services, digital communication and tourism.

Talks also went over the need for developing laws to minimise character assassination and rumours spread that could affect the social fabric, drawing attention to the importance of legalisation upgrade, especially the cybercrime bill, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

On efforts to deal with misinformation and rumours, Dudin, who is also the government spokesperson, said that the government last year launched the executive plan of the national initiative to spread media and information education for 2020-2023.

The plan aims at developing a programme to improve society's ability to deal with information and news sources, as well as digital technology tools.

Responding to a question about the crisis of print media, the spokesperson said that the government has held a series of meetings with the managements of daily newspapers, noting that a set of results will be shared during the upcoming period to empower newspapers and increasing their financial income, via establishing a fund to support media content.

The primary concern of the fund is providing training for journalists, as well as rehabilitating fresh graduates, he added.

Regarding unifying government messaging during crises, Dudin said that the government is moving towards developing mechanism to that end, as well as to examine the efficacy of official messages, Petra added.
