Jordan ranks 87th in global Internet speed index

AMMAN — The Kingdom has witnessed a 20-point rise in the Internet speed index during the COVID-19 pandemic, leaping from the 107th rank to the 87th in May 2020, according to the Speedtest Global Index. Jordan is expected to rise further in the index to reach the 67th rank, according to the report.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) Ghazi Al Jabour highlighted the “tangible” improvement in the average download speeds for mobile networks by 54 per cent (28.26 Mbps per second) during the period from March 2 to the end of May, according to a TRC statement.
The authority was one of the world’s first regulatory bodies to offer free temporary use of the spectrum for mobile phone operators to face the expected pressure during lockdowns, which led to an increase in data traffic by 8 per cent and an improvement in user speed by 73 per cent, he added.
