2 quakes recorded near Syria’s Latakia — JSO

AMMAN — Two earthquakes, measuring 5.2 and 5 magnitudes on the Richter scale, struck the coast of Syria on Wednesday morning, the Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources recorded.
JSO Director Mahmoud Qaryouti said that the first quake of 5.2 magnitude at a depth of 10 kilometres struck the area some 40km northwest of the Syrian city of Latakia, followed by a 5-magnitude quake occuring in the same area at 11:18am.
Qaryouti added that the earthquakes were preceded by a 4.2-magnitude tremor at 1:37am, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
