Earthquake measuring 4.8 on Richter scale hits Aqaba

AMMAN — The Jordan Seismological Observatory (JSO) on Tuesday at 7:01pm recorded an earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale, which struck an area 100 kilometres away from the southern city of Aqaba.

JSO Director Mahmoud Qaryouti said Aqaba residents felt the quake, which happened at a depth of 30km, and was centred in the northern part of Egyptian Thahab city, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

An earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale, followed by four aftershocks, struck Aqaba on May 16, and no causalities or damages were reported.
