AMMAN — The Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) has carried out several strategic operations as part of the 12-day Egypt-hosted “Bright Star 2018” drills.
Jordan is taking part in the event along with the US, Greece, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Italy and France, in addition to Egypt and 16 countries that are participating as observers, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Thursday.
Various JAF units participating in the drills have embarked on implementing their operations in various fields, such as anti-terrorism, urban warfare and airdrop and landing operations with the use of live ammunition from various weapons.
Col. Nizar Soub, commander of the Jordanian force participating in the exercise, said that JAF takes part in such international manoeuvres to boost military and security strategic relations with participating countries.
Soub added that JAF has been tasked with the main duties in the drill in fields simulating fights in buildings, parachuting, anti-piracy and counterterrorism.
The drills aim at exchanging expertise, enhancing coordination between the participating militaries, standardising concepts and improving skills of participants, as well as developing methods of operations and training on counterterrorism and non-traditional warfare, according to Egyptian media.
The “Bright Star 2018” military drills come in the framework of joint military training between the Egyptian military forces and forces from other countries, in order to improve and boost Egypt’s relations with its neighbouring and friendly countries amid the current difficult times in the Middle East region, Egyptian media added.
