Suspect arrested for murder of woman in Dahiyat Al Rashid

AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel arrested a man suspected of the murder of a woman in her forties at her house in Dahiyat Al Rashid on Sunday, the Public Security Department said on Tuesday.

The north Amman police directorate's main operation room on Sunday received a report about a fire in a house in Dahiyat Al Rashid. Police, CID and Civil Defence Department personnel headed to the scene where they put out the fire; they found the body of the woman, which showed signs of having being hit and choked. 

Forensic examination of the body confirmed that the injuries were sustained before the fire erupted. 

A CID team took over the case, with intelligence leading them to a guest worker who had previously worked as a house painter in the home of the victim. 

Arrested by the CID personnel, the suspect confessed to having worked for the victim, entered her house later on, hit her, choked her, and finally set her house on fire in an attempt to destroy any evidence. He also admitted taking her phone and the house key, and throwing them in a water purification station. 

The case was referred to the Criminal Court prosecutor.
