AMMAN — Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel on Monday arrested two suspects after a man was found dead in a burning vehicle in Amman, the Public Security Department (PSD) said.
South Amman PSD received a tip-off after midnight about a burning vehicle in the Amman National Park and a group of CID and PSD officers went to the scene to investigate, the PSD said in a statement.
Civil Defence Department cadres put out the fire and CID and PSD personnel found a charred body inside the vehicle, and summoned the specialised prosecutor and a forensics doctor to examine the body.
The examination revealed gunshot wounds to be the cause of death and it appeared that the body was burned in the vehicle to conceal the crime, so a special investigation team was formed to identify the victim and arrest the suspects, the statement said.
The victim was an Arab national in his twenties, and information about the deceased led to a suspect who was arrested and confessed to shooting the victim over personal disputes, the PSD added.
The suspect said an accomplice helped him move the body to the vehicle and commit arson in order to hide the evidence of the crime.
The accomplice was also arrested and the investigation is still ongoing in order to refer the case to the Criminal Court prosecutor.
