AMMAN — Two US contractors and their Jordanian driver were killed on Monday when their minivan collided with a truck in the capital, officials said on Wednesday.

The truck, which was carrying large pipes, changed lanes suddenly and collided with the minivan at around 5:30am in Muwaqqar, in southeast Amman, said Lt. Col. Yaser Habahbeh of the Central Traffic Department (CTD).

The US embassy in Amman confirmed the deaths of the Americans, who were working in Jordan as US government contractors.

“Because the investigation is ongoing, and next of kin of the victims were ‎notified, we have no further comment at this time,” the embassy said in a statement e-mailed to Jordan Times.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the victims, their families and their loved ones. We appreciate the support of the Jordanian government and emergency services during this trying time,” the statement added.

On Tuesday, an Egyptian man was killed and three people were injured in a road accident in the early hours of the morning in Deir Ghbar in Amman, Habahbeh said.

Also on Tuesday, a 13-year-old boy was killed in a road accident in Um Quttein in the Northern Badia, he added.

The Civil Defence Department (CDD) said in a statement that the teenager’s body was taken to Northern Badia Hospital.

The CDD said that a 25-year-old man died from an electric shock at a construction site in Jerash on Tuesday, and a 20-year-old man drowned in Dahous in Ajloun.

Seven people were injured in a road accident in Beit Yafa in Irbid on Tuesday, the CDD said.

They were taken to Princess Basma Educational Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition.

In Zarqa, the driver of an oil truck was injured in an accident caused by a sudden lane change, the CDD said, adding that he was taken to Zarqa Public Hospital.

Meanwhile, five people were injured in a road accident in Rmeimin in Balqa.

Another five people were injured in a crash involving four vehicles in Baqaa in Balqa, the CDD said.
