15 killed in road accidents since Thursday — official

AMMAN — Fifteen people have died and 48 have been injured in traffic accidents across Jordan since Thursday, officials said on Saturday.
On Thursday, Civil Defence Department (CDD) cadres dealt with six accidents in which 14 people were killed and 12 injured, said Lt. Col. Yaser Habahbeh of the Central Traffic Department (CTD).
On the Azraq-Safawi road, five people were killed when a Public Security Department (PSD) pickup truck crashed into a Public Works Ministry jeep, Habahbeh told The Jordan Times.
“The accident happened when the pick-up was changing lanes and the jeep was speeding,” said Habahbeh.
Major Awwad Masaeed and Corporal Sultan Sardeieh of the PSD were among those killed in the accident, Habahbeh said, noting that Masaeed died early Saturday.
In Aqaba, one person died and another was injured when two trucks collided, the CTD official said.
In Zarqa, four people died and three were injured when a vehicle suddenly changed lanes and collided with another vehicle. CDD cadres moved the bodies and the injured to Zarqa Government Hospital, Habahbeh said.
Meanwhile in Mafraq, three people died and four were injured in a car crash, he added.
Near Karak’s Taibeh Circle, one person died and 11 were injured in a two-vehicle collision, according to Habahbeh.
In Amman, four people were injured in a road accident and listed in fair condition, the CTD official said.
On Friday, four people were injured and taken to Al Bashir Hospital after a road accident in Jabal Al Qusour in east Amman.
Four other people were injured in a car crash in Safout in Amman and taken to Al Hussein Medical City, Habahbeh said, while six people were injured in a car crash in Irbid.
On Saturday, one person died and another was seriously injured when a vehicle overturned in Amman. Both victims were engineers in their 50s, Habahbeh said.
In Balqa, six people were injured in a collision at Ain Al Basha Circle, he noted, adding that the injured were taken to the Prince Hassan Hospital where they were listed in fair condition.
