House panel briefed on Culture Ministry’s work, challenges

AMMAN — The Lower House Education Committee on Sunday met with Culture Minister Lana Mamkegh and a number of specialists from the ministry as part of a series of meetings with ministers to check on their activities and the challenges they face.
MP Bassam Btoush, who chaired the meeting, called for safeguarding the Jordanian identity and culture, urging a review of the regulations to license cultural entities.
Mamkegh said Jordan Television and Roya TV will soon present programmes on local authors and artists, and the ministry will hold festivals and various programmes for children. Ministry representatives cited the limited budget as a challenge.
